Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy based on the principles that there are reflex areas in the hands and feet which correspond to glands, organs and parts of the body.  The treatment is tailored to the client as we're all unique; the aim being to restore balance naturally. Reflexology helps the body to heal itself.

There is evidence of reflexology in Ancient Egypt dating back as far as 2500BC from the Tomb of the Physician, Ankhmahor but the most common theory is that the earliest form of reflexology originated in China as much as 5000 years ago. The early Taoists are credited with originating many Chinese health practices. Many of the techniques and concepts used today are based on the work of Dr William Fitzgerald (known as the “Father of Zone Therapy”) and Eunice D. Ingham (referred to as the “Mother of Reflexology”).

While some people may dismiss Reflexology as simply as means to relax there is research out there to back up its many benefits and anyway assisting with relaxation is no bad thing. In 2010, the Health and Safety Executive reported that “stress is the second most commonly reported type of work-related illness (approximately 435,000 people). In simple terms, stress is an over stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. It’s “fight or flight” response is only designed to be short term so prolonged stimulation can impact on the glands, nervous system and organs.
